Diageo has launched the long-awaited Talisker 30 Year Old, a limited edition release that “embodies three decades of aging.”
Diageo has unveiled the Talisker 30 Year Old, a limited edition release that showcases the depth and complexity achieved after three decades of maturation. This whisky, made on the rugged Isle of Skye, embodies the spirit of its surroundings with a “gentle peppery kick and wisps of sea smoke.” As Diageo describes it, the Talisker 30 Year Old is “the pinnacle of Talisker’s range of whiskies,” combining age and craftsmanship in a single, remarkable expression.
Ewan Gunn, senior ambassador for Diageo’s single malt Scotch whiskies and an expert on Talisker, expressed his enthusiasm for the release in an interview with *The Drinks Business*. He noted that the Talisker 30 Year Old is eagerly awaited each time it is released and remains a favorite among both whisky fans and collectors. Gunn emphasized how the whisky creates a strong connection to its place of origin, with each sip bringing the taster closer to the wild and scenic beauty of Skye, from the distillery itself to the majestic views of the surrounding mountains and sea.
Matt Macpherson, owner of the award-winning Malt Rooms, which was named Best Whisky Bar in Scotland in 2021, added to the praise, describing the Talisker 30 Year Old as the epitome of balance in a whisky. He compared the experience of drinking it to enjoying “the best smoked butter of your life,” with subtle hints of brine that evoke the coastal charm of Scotland’s West Coast.
According to Diageo, the whisky offers a nose filled with freshly picked red apples, stone fruit, aromatic wood spice, and vanilla pods, along with a hint of white pepper and dark chocolate. On the palate, it delivers a warming smoke that intertwines with peppery heat, gentle salinity, and layers of orchard fruits, bonfire embers, and pecan fudge. The finish is long, warm, and lingering, with notes of toffee and delicate sea smoke.
Limited to just 2,610 bottles worldwide, this release is sure to be highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike, further solidifying Talisker’s reputation for creating exceptional, place-driven whiskies.
