Although many claims it was created in 1766, Whiskey Sour first appeared in a Wisconsin newspaper in 1870.
Also known as Boston Sour, this cocktail Whiskey Sour is probably one of the most popular of the similar cocktails, along with the Pisco Sour. Moreover, it has been found quoted in numerous works (books, music, films), such as in the film “The Seven Year Itch”, with Marilyn Monroe (1955).
The ingredients of the Whiskey Sour cocktail
Like all sour cocktails, Whiskey Sour is a cocktail containing alcohol mixed with lemon – or lemon juice – and sugar. In this case, the ingredients of the Whiskey Sour cocktail are American rye or bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, simple sugar syrup, Angostura Bitters, and egg white. An egg white is optional, even if it provides a smooth texture and creates a link between the different ingredients.
The Whiskey Sour cocktail recipe
All the complexity of the Whiskey Sour recipe lies in knowing how to use the egg white in your cocktail. Note that the presence of lemon in the Whiskey Sour prevents the cocktail from smelling of egg white. However, as said above, you can simplify this Whiskey Sour recipe by removing it.
You will then simply have to mix the other ingredients in a shaker and filter everything in a cocktail glass.
